Intelligent Medical
Objects Partners with HyperCereus Medical
Chicago, IL, June 28, 2002 /Xpress
Press/ Intelligent Medical Objects, Inc. (IMO) and HyperCereus
Medical, Inc. today announced a partnership to provide a best-of-breed
solution for Medical Necessity checking at the point of care.
The solution includes enhanced coding vocabularies from IMO
and high quality Local Medicare Review Policy (LMRP) data sets
from HyperCereus.
The new solution set is aimed at
point-of-care applications where it is crucial for clinicians
to know whether or not Medicare and the majority of insurance
companies will pay for a given coded combination of diagnosis
and treatment/service. Noncompliance results in the physician
or clinic running the risk of not getting reimbursed, or worse,
incurring heavy fines.
The complex regulations that define
medical necessity are issued by the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services (CMS) and then interpreted state-by-state
as LMRPs by the various insurance carriers that serve as intermediaries
for the handling of Medicare claims. The LMRPs are in a perpetual
state of change and vary widely from state to state making
it very difficult for physicians to stay up to date. As a
result, medical necessity is the most common reason for improper
payments made by Medicare to healthcare providers, according
to Medicare's Chief Financial Officers' audit.
"The lack of access to medical
necessity data at the point-of-care results in coding and
reimbursement errors costing the U.S. healthcare system billions
of dollars each year," says Fabio Almeida, M.D., president
and founder of HyperCereus Medical, Inc. "We have used our
extensive experience in medical informatics to build a suite
of tools and QA processes which have allowed us to rapidly
capture and maintain the LMRP rules and data with a level
of quality and accuracy unmatched in the market. We recently
completed data for all 50 states for both Medicare Part A
and Part B. The goal of the partnership with IMO is to couple
our medical necessity data with IMO's suite of vocabulary
databases to provide a complete compliance solution."
"The partnership with HyperCereus
provides IMO with a significant enhancement to our coding
vocabularies", says Frank Naeymi-Rad, CEO of Intelligent Medical
Objects. "The definition and data capture of the medical necessity
rules are extremely complicated and resource intensive. Through
the partnership with HyperCereus, we will enhance our ability
to provide the data necessary to help clinicians make informed
decisions at the point-of-care, when the procedure and diagnosis
are first being considered."
Under the agreement, Intelligent
Medical Objects is now providing a Medical Necessity solution
that includes: (1) the IMO enhanced vocabularies for ICD-9-CM,
Physicians' Current Procedural Terminology (CPT™) and
HCPCS; (2) the HyperCereus LMRP data sets, containing all
of the ICD vs. CPT/HCPCS crosswalks required to check compliance
with the reimbursement policies; and (3) a software development
kit for integration with point-of-care applications. IMO offers
assistance as required for integration, and HyperCereus ensures
quality and timeliness of the LMRP data. Additional information
is available at IMO's web site, www.e-imo.com.
